i kind of doubt that the 4th rev of the iPhone will hit until the 2 year contracts of the 3G owners are up. This happened, roughly, with the 3Gs. It may not have been the big step up over the 3G, but it very much was a huge step up from the original iPhone. Releasing iPhone revs out of order would hamper the potential sales, since most 3G owners still have 6-8 months left on their contracts, and 3Gs owners have well over a year left on theirs.!
